about

In the summer of 2004, I took a trip to Finland to visit my relatives. My cousin sat me down at her loom and let me throw a few picks for a photo op. Upon returning to the states, I sought lessons and a loom.
I have been a knitter for nearly 25 years. Rarely have I sold my work. However, the idea of selling handwoven items excited me so in 2010 I launched pirtti. Focusing primarily on the subtle relationships of color and texture, each scarf is made on a floor loom in my home. The scarves are made in small numbers, most being one-of-a-kind or limited edition resulting in no more than three scarves of any colorway.

What is Pirtti?
Pirtti is the main room of a traditional Finnish farm-house primarily used for meals, socializing, chores and crafts. It conjures up a feeling of community and comfort, a place to gather and make things. My pirtti is my home that I share with my husband and our two children in San Francisco.
